Awareness of Acceptance
an excerpt from Live Beautifully: A Book to Sit With, by Doris Wedige
Reflections on a lesson taught...
I would like to become a better student in this classroom called Life. It seems that each lesson is just another opportunity to choose Love and Forgiveness. If we fail to choose Love and Forgiveness, Life creates a whole set of new circumstances to give us another chance at learning the lesson at hand. Each time that we fail to choose Love, the pain seems to intensify. Life is a very patient teacher. Many lessons seem to be taking generations to learn. In my efforts of being a better student, I will begin the practice of reflecting on my experiences and taking note of life’s lessons that seem to be on my agenda. I will recall the times when I chose to be angry, agitated, tense or any other lower realm state of being. Then I will imagine how the situation would have felt different if instead of being drawn into the drama of it all, if I had found Peace and Acceptance for what was. It will be a role play in my imagination. Instead of anger or regret adding negative energy to the environment, I could at the very least remain neutral. Beyond Acceptance, I could then imagine myself feeling Love and Compassion for those involved. I could take a few moments to pray for humanity that we might find Peace within ourselves and thus with each other. My Love and Compassion would contribute a flow of positive energy into our world. Negative, neutral, or positive (fearful, Accepting, or Loving), over and over again we get to choose what contribution we will make. For every minute we remain unloving, we give up sixty seconds of Living Beautifully. |
