Awareness of disorder

an excerpt from Live Beautifully:  A Book to Sit With, by Doris Wedige

Reflections on revealing the treasures within...
For the last decade I have spent many hours on my hands and knees pulling garlic mustard from our land.  It is a nasty invasive plant that comes up ridiculously early in the spring and shades out hopes of anything else having a chance to grow.  I’ve been weeding with a vengeance dreaming of the day when I would get it under control and then begin the process of going to the garden center and bringing home more desirable plants for my garden.
But now that I have significantly reduced the garlic mustard, what is actually happening is plants and seeds that have remained dormant in the soil for so many years are suddenly experiencing the conditions that they need to grow.  There are so many beautiful plants popping up all over the place.  It’s hard to believe that they were able to remain viable for so long within the soil.  This land has been teeming with the potential for plant life that was just waiting for the right circumstances for growth.
I see a parallel in myself.  In the relinquishing of my fears (nasty weeds), the delightful, loving, creative me can grow.  My fears have shaded out my potential for growth.  By weeding out the fears, the Light gets through to our fertile ground and beautiful growth occurs.
We are not separate from nature.  I see myself reflected in my natural surroundings.  Just as the land around me has potential for beautiful creation within its soils, so do I have potential for beautiful creation within myself.  All we need are the right conditions.  So do the work of pulling and casting off your weeds, shed your fears, the false beliefs that create darkness.  Return to Love and experience the growth that comes from living in the Light.

I intend to be aware of that which stifles
my potential for new growth.
