Reflections on setting down your baggage... I had a wonderful morning today. I set off on my bike ride feeling infused with Divine energy. As I rode down a path I approached a woman running alongside a little girl on a bike. They didn’t hear my approach so with just a few yards separating us I let out a friendly “Good Morning!” I was surprised by the woman’s reaction. She let out a scream and threw her arms in the air. She came to a dead stop and bent at the waist to recover from her explosion of emotion. When she straightened herself, she looked at me and said, ”I feel like I just lost five pounds.” Thinking that losing five pounds is every woman’s dream come true, I replied, “You’re welcome,” and continued to ride past them. As I peddled along I contemplated what I had just witnessed. The phrase that came to mind was, “I scared the begeebies out of her.” But I felt as though I literally witnessed a release of fear. Like the fearful energy literally let loose from her body, thus the flailing of arms, the screams and the subsequent sensation of her body feeling five pounds lighter. Many of us carry the emotional burdens of our past within us throughout our lives. It’s like we have a pack on our backs and we keep adding to our load. We carry with us all of the hurt, the disappointments, the fears, and our worries. Why do we carry the negative emotions of our past? Why are we reluctant to truly let go? Is it because the ego thrives on the negative energy of our fearful emotions? Does it try to convince us that we should hold on to being right, rather than to forgive, forget and move on? Let’s unload our baggage. Let’s stand united on a mountaintop. Let’s remove our packs, let’s lovingly forgive ourselves and all others and let’s cast our baggage down the mountainside. Let’s join together rejoicing and dancing on the mountaintop with bodies and spirits that are Joyful and Light!
